Accredited Standards & Material Traceability
TorqBolt operates an audited quality management system designed to meet the rigorous compliance frameworks demanded by offshore EPCs, subsea developers, chemical processors, and nuclear installations. Each fastener manufactured across our complete product range is delivered with authentic mill heat traceability and verified testing documentation.

EN 10204 Type 3.2 Inspection
Available on client request with third-party witnessing. Witnessed and validated jointly by the manufacturer's QA and independent inspectorates such as Lloyd's Register, DNV, Bureau Veritas, TÜV, ABS, or client-nominated inspection engineers.
PED 2014/68/EU Annex I § 4.3
Approved manufacturing system certified by TÜV Rheinland for equipment subject to European pressure equipment directives, ensuring proper material selection, impact resilience, and high-integrity hot and cold forming disciplines.
Product Standards vs. Basic Functional Standards
For industrial mechanical fasteners (including heavy hex bolts, socket cap screws, studs, and heavy hex nuts), every functional, dimensional, and metallurgical characteristic is governed by harmonized international standards:
- Product Standards (e.g. DIN 931, DIN 933, ISO 4014, ASME B18.2.1): Specify external geometry, dimensional tolerances, thread lengths, standard property classes, and nominal sizes.
- Basic & Functional Standards (e.g. ISO 898-1/2, ISO 3506-1/2, ASTM A193/A194): Regulate mechanical performance, proof loading, chemical boundaries, surface decarburization, hardness criteria, and factory acceptance routines.
Standard norms primarily establish criteria for general industrial service. Where installations require heightened safety allowances — such as subsea equipment, sour gas handling under NACE MR0175, or extreme cryogenic temperatures — TorqBolt configures supplemental factory testing to suit exact engineering datasheets.
In-Process Quality Verification
Throughout hot forging, CNC machining, thread rolling, and solution annealing, our metallurgical technicians execute continuous sampling to verify structural grain flow and defect-free thread forms:
- Screws & Stud Bolts (ISO 898-1 / ISO 3506-1): Core and surface hardness testing, full-size and machined tensile testing, wedge loading, head soundness/diagonal pull testing, and decarburization evaluation.
- Nuts (ISO 898-2 / ASTM A194): Proof load verification under mandatory holding time, Rockwell/Brinell hardness testing, and cone proof expansion resistance.
- Environmental Baselines: Standard mechanical properties are validated at ambient room temperature (+20 °C ± 5 °C) unless elevated or sub-zero impact testing is prescribed.
DIN 11204 Testing Schedules for Fasteners
When specific testing protocols are not explicitly defined in purchase contracts, DIN 11204 establishes the standard testing scopes for inspection documents prepared in accordance with EN 10204. Below are the mandatory and default verification schedules executed in our test laboratory.
| Inspection Parameter | Standard Testing Provisions & Implementation Details |
|---|---|
| Tensile Test: Specimen Geometry | Tensile evaluation of the full-size fastener: Applicable for screws M6 through M39 per ISO 898-1, ISO 3506-1, ISO 8839, or DIN 267-13, provided the geometry allows gripping. Where required for large diameters or short shank configurations, testing of proportional turned specimens must be pre-arranged during initial ordering. |
| Hardness Testing: Test Methodology | Determination of Vickers (HV), Brinell (HBW), or Rockwell (HRC/HRB) values adhering to ISO 6506, ISO 6507, ISO 6508, or ASTM A370. The recorded certificate indicates specific methodology and test locations. |
| Hardness Testing: Individual Values | Mandatory for carbon, alloy, and martensitic steels. Does not apply as a mandatory rejection criterion for non-ferrous metals (ISO 8839) or austenitic stainless steels (grades A1 to A5 per ISO 3506-1/2), where tensile performance governs acceptance. |
| Torsion Test: Breaking Torque | Executed for smaller screws (≤ M5) across all property classes of ISO 898-1, austenitic stainless types A1 to A5, and non-ferrous alloys per ISO 8839, verifying torsional breaking limits according to ISO 898-7. |
| Chemical Composition | Full spectroscopic heat analysis (ladle analysis) coupled with confirmatory product check analysis per the material specification (ASTM, ASME, DIN, or ISO). |
| Inspection Parameter | Standard Testing Provisions & Implementation Details |
|---|---|
| Proof Load Test | Mandatory full-scale proof load verification for nuts M6 through M39 conforming to ISO 898-2, ISO 898-6, ISO 3506-2, ISO 8839, and DIN 267-13. Nut must support axial proof load without thread stripping or seizing on mandrel. |
| Hardness Test Methodology | Core and bearing surface hardness validated per ASTM A370 and ISO 6506 / ISO 6508. Prevents galling and guarantees load transfer compatibility with mating bolts. |
| Hardness Testing: Individual Values | Recorded across specified sample lots. Does not apply for non-ferrous fasteners (ISO 8839) or austenitic stainless grades (A1 to A5) unless special strain-hardened conditions (C1, C4) are ordered. |
| Chemical Composition | Comprehensive cast heat analysis detailing elemental percentages against ASTM A194, ISO 3506, or DIN material chemistry thresholds. |
